Kobi Levi shoes to go on show at Waalwijk museum

This summer the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum in Waalwijk will host an exhibition of shoes created by quirky Israeli designer Kobi Levi.

Kobi Levi was still in school in Tel Aviv when he created his first shoes from cardboard. He went on to study at the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem graduating in 2001. He then worked as a freelance shoe designer, and in his own words always carved out time to create “the most amazing shoes” he could think of, “purely for enjoyment”.

The exhibition of his work at Waalwijk will be in place from June 2 until August 25 and will consist of 35 pairs of his shoes. The designer has said this will be the largest number of Kobi Levi shoes ever collected for a museum or art event.

Models on show will include, appropriately for the Netherlands, one called Tulip, designed in 2003. Other shoe designs in the exhibition take their inspiration from animals and birds, including Elephant (2011), Toucan (2011) and Shark (2012).

Another set of shoes in the show come from Mr Levi’s work in conjunction with Disney, including the Wicked Queen from Snow White (2013), Ursula from the Little Mermaid (2013) and Maleficent from The Sleeping Beauty (2013).
