Ekaterinburg event highlights importance of Russia for Italian shoes

Italian footwear manufacturers association, Assocalzaturifici, has stepped up its efforts to find buyers in Russia by adding Ekaterinburg to the cities in the region to host a specific Italian footwear event.

Following successful tie-ups in Moscow at the time of the Obuv’ Mir Koži event, and separate meetings with buyers in other parts of the former Soviet Union, such as Kiev and Almaty, a further meeting, under the Shoes From Italy banner, took place in Ekaterinburg for the first time at the end of April 2013.

Eleven high-end Italian footwear firms took part in the event, which took place in the Atrium Palace Hotel in Russia’s fourth-largest city, meeting around 30 local buyers.

In 2012, Italian footwear exports to Russia reached a total of more than 7.5 million pairs, an increase of 12% in volume compared to 2011.In terms of value, footwear exported to Russia had a value of EUR 592 million, an increase of 13.8% compared to the previous year.

Russia is the fifth-biggest export market by value for the Italian footwear industry and the eighth by volume.
