Niger: microfinance firm aims to help hides and skins projects

15/05/2013
Projects for collecting, preserving and processing hides and skins in Niger will be among the initiatives to benefit from a Asusu, a microfinance organisation in the country, which has just won funding from the West African Development Bank.

Asusu has secured funding of almost $2 million for a variety of projects. It has pledged to use the money to finance ideas that are in keeping with a strategy it calls 3N, from the French for “Nigeriens Feeding Nigeriens”.

Prominent among 3N initiatives will be ideas for strengthening the rural economy and making more of Niger’s natural resources. Asusu has said specifically that it wants to provide funding that will help Niger grow its animal by-products sector, including hides and skins.
