Adidas nears target of using only LWG silver or gold tanneries

German sportswear group adidas has published its sustainability report for 2012 in which it says it is near its target of using only silver or gold-rated tanneries (of those based outside Europe) by 2015.

About 79% of the leather adidas buys from outside Europe is now from tanneries certified to gold standard by the Leather Working Group (LWG), around 20% is from silver-certified tanneries and 1% is from bronze-certified ones. This means it is 1% away from the 2015 target.

It is also aiming to source 85% of product from gold-rated tanneries by 2015.

The LWG is a multi-stakeholder group that assesses the environmental performance of tanneries.
