On hearing the news at the end of April, Professor Nick Petford, the university’s vice-chancellor said: “We are proud and excited that the University of Northampton has risen by 39 places, a jump that is unprecedented and places us at number 62, making us the highest-climbing university in the country by far. This leap is the result of the dedication and professionalism of all our staff. It demonstrates our commitment to transform ourselves into an internationally facing university, with our unique strategy that takes an institutional and holistic approach to integrating social enterprise into our student offer, teaching and learning and research.”
Professor Petford went on to say that the university sector in the UK faces considerable challenges in the coming years, but added that he was confident Northampton can reach the top 50 by 2015.
To emphasise the importance of the university’s work outside the UK, Professor Petford travelled to Brazil at the start of May, with meetings with representatives of the Brazilian leather industry high on the agenda for his visit.
