The chief executive of Turkish leather apparel manufacturer Gunduz Group, Ruken Mizrakli, has said her company has been able to become a supplier to high-end fashion groups in recent years, partly thanks to rising raw material prices.

Ms Mizrakli said in recent comments to local media that high costs of lamb and sheepskin forced her company to rethink its businss and led it to focus on making only high-quality garments. This led to Gunduz becoming a supplier to Prada, Armani, Burberry, Ralph Lauren and other brands.

Sources in the leather apparel industry in Turkey say there are realistic ambitions to reach $10 billion a year in exports within 10 years.
