Pakistan’s Trade Development Authority (TDAP) has promised direct help for the country’s leather sector, including sponsorship of a new exhibition in Lahore later in the year.

TDAP chief executive, Abid Javed Akbar, said his organisation wanted to help the leather industry boost its export performance, which he said has the potential to grow from current levels of $1 billion per year to $2 billion over the next three years.

In speaking of the capabilities of tanners in Pakistan, Mr Akbar congratulated Lahore-based Royal Leather Industry Limited on winning Highly Commended for Asia excluding China at the 2013 Tannery of the Year competition.
