Bridge of Weir selected for royal yacht refit

UK-based leather company Bridge of Weir has been selected to supply leather to The Royal Yacht Britannia, the former yacht of the British royal family which now serves as a tourist attraction in Edinburgh.

Bridge of Weir, part of the Scottish Leather Group, was originally chosen to supply leather to the yacht as part of a 1953 refit. “The key thing for us was to refit the room to the original furnishings and Bridge of Weir was a major part of this as the original supplier,” said Andrew Thomson, head of hospitality and events at The Royal Yacht Britannia.

Britannia sailed more than 1 million miles as part of her 44-year history as a royal yacht, but undertook her last voyage in 1997 after she was decommissioned because of a lack of funding.

Bridge of Weir sales director Jamie Davidson said: “This has been a great project for us and one we’ve been involved with for a number of years. The refurbished ward room looks fantastic and is really evocative of a historic time.”
