BMW to start making Minis in India

19/04/2013
In response to increasing demand for premium cars from the Mini brand, the BMW Group has announced it will begin to make the cars outside Europe for the first time since the brand’s relaunch in 2001.

Local production for the Mini Countryman is being prepared at the BMW plant in Chennai to help meet the increasing demand for the cars in India.

The first models to be produced in Chennai will be the Mini Cooper D Countryman and the Mini One Countryman.

India has become an increasingly significant market for the BMW Group, which has operated its own sales company on the subcontinent since 2007. At the start of 2012, Mini opened its first five showrooms in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, making India the 100th market in the global Mini sales network.
