Figures for the first quarter of 2013 show export revenues from hides and leather of $545.2 million, an increase of 17.4% on the same quarter in 2012.

In terms of volume, Brazilian tanners and traders exported 8.2 million hides between the beginning of January and the end of March 2013. São Paulo, with a share of 21.9% of the total value, Rio Grande do Sul with 19.4%, Paraná with 11.4% and Goiás with 10.9% were the most important leather-producing states for the quarter.

Chinese importers spend $133.4 million on Brazilian leather over the quarter, while their counterparts in Italy invested $126.4 million.
