After success in the apprentice award category, the group was also named winner of the chairman’s award, acknowledging the company’s commitment to young workers in Scotland.
The academy was launched in April last year and in August, the first 10 apprentices joined the two-year modern apprenticeship in leather production and manufacturing.
Maureen Ross, head of human resources, said: “Our academy is a fantastic vocational programme with real job opportunities and career prospects at the end of it. The talent that came through our selection assessment process identified that we could easily have more than doubled our intake."
Scottish Leather is the parent company to Muirhead & Son and Bridge of Weir. It specialises in automotive and aviation leather, and exports to over 60 countries.
