JBS to conclude XL acquisition with Nebraska and Idaho deals

05/04/2013
Brazilian packer and tanning group JBS has said it hopes to conclude its acquisition of North American group XL Foods on April 8 by finalising a deal for XL’s assets in the United States.

In January 2013, JBS concluded a deal for the group’s Canadian facilities: an abattoir in Brooks, Alberta, one in Calgary, plus a feedlot and surrounding land in Brooks.

To conclude the acquisition, the Brazilian group will now take control of an abattoir in Omaha, Nebraska, and one in Nampa, Idaho. Each of the US abattoirs has a slaughter capacity of 1,100 head of cattle per day. However, the Nampa plant has been in mothballs for some time and JBS has said it has no immediate plans to recommence activity there.
