DSW’s aggressive growth strategy pays off with sales up 12%

Sales at US-based footwear and accessories retailer DSW rose 11.5% to $2.3 billion in 2012.

The company also reported a positive fourth-quarter, with sales rising 15.7% to $594.3 million – the 14th consecutive quarter of positive comparable sales growth.

However, the trend has softened in the first six weeks of this year, with comparable sales declining by 5%. “Given this weak start, it is difficult to project full year sales and profit performance with confidence. Internally, the company is now managing merchandise receipts and inventories assuming flat comparable sales performance in the first half of the year,” said the company.

DSW operates 364 stores and supplies footwear to 346 leased locations across the US. It opened 40 stores in 2012.
