Chinese and Indian tanneries receive LWG awards

Foshan Nanhai Mimosa Leathers, based in the Chinese province of Guangdong, achieved a gold award. Mimosa was founded in 1994, and produces leather for clients including Clarks, Hugo Boss and Nine West. It was recently awarded a Provincial Clean Production Company certificate from the government in recognition of its dedication to saving energy saving and reducing emissions.
T Abdul Wahid Tanneries, based in Chennai, India, achieved a silver award from LWG. Its tanneries provide direct employment to 1,600 people, while its shoe factory employs 1,800. Its three leather processing sites have effluent treatment plants employing anaerobic treatment with extended aeration and each handles 150,200,300 m3 of waste water per day. A foundation started by the chairman runs a higher secondary school in the local town of Ambur.
