Political honour for leather academic

11/03/2013
Dr Shi Bi, professor and director of the laboratory of leather chemistry and engineering at Sichuan University in China, has been elected onto the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), one of the country’s most influential political advisory bodies.

Professor Shi Bi recently served as president of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) and was a member of the judging panel for the first programme of Tannery of the Year in 2010.

In practice, the CPPCC’s current role is similar to that of the advisory legislative upper house of parliament in many countries.
