Bilbao is the backdrop for new Loewe collection

Basque city Bilbao and its Frank Ghery-designed Guggenheim museum provided the inspiration for the catwalk show that luxury leathergoods brand Loewe presented at the Paris Fashion Week at the end of February.

Media in Spain have attributed the development to time that the brand’s creative director, Stuart Vevers, spent in Bilbao last autumn, taking thousands of photographs. Its sophistication inspired him to create the pieces in the catwalk show, which will also form the backdrop of Loewe’s autumn-winter 2013-2014 collection.

“I went to Bilbao to learn from the city’s architecture,” Mr Vevers later told one Basque newspaper. “I thought it would be interesting to bring the architecture of Bilbao into the collection. The different parts of Spain are one of the best sources of inspiration for Loewe.”
