Chile: imports of US beef much higher in 2012

27/02/2013
Imports of US beef into Chile in 2012 had a value of $59.1 million, a significant increase from five years ago.

Five years ago, the comparative value was $1 million. Even as recently as 2010, the figure was only $6 million.

The US Meat Export Federation has said that “important competitors” such as Paraguay and Argentina have been able to supply less meat to Chile in recent years because of restrictions. It added that another factor was the growing levels of wealth in Chile and the increasing desire among its consumers for high-quality beef.
