New agreement will promote Tuscan leather to young designers
25/02/2013
The two organisations made the joint commitment during the February edition of the Milan Fashion Week (February 20-26) and said the exercise would continue for the rest of 2013.
In particular, the two bodies said they would work together to bring the qualities of leather to the attention of young designers. They said on announcing their partnership that they felt sure promoting Tuscan leather would tap into young designers’ desire to present their work as something sustainable.
They said in a statement following their meeting in Milan that the leather made by the tanneries that make up the Real Leather Consortium is “a product firmly rooted in the most ancient traditions of the tanning industry” because it comes from production methods that use tanning agents of vegetable origin and uphold “the deepest respect for nature and for humanity”.
Stefano Biagi, president of the consortium, said afterwards: “The agreement we have signed with CNMI is a fundamental step for us in presenting our leather first and foremost as an ‘ambassador’ to the world of the Tuscan tanning tradition, handed down from one generation to the next.”
