Show sentiment is that leather will increase in ready-to-wear

Exhibitors at Le Cuir A Paris reported increased visits from the textile sector, which indicates that use of leather in ready-to-wear is set to continue.

Last season’s catwalks featured the material prominently in skirts, dresses and tops, and it has now filtered down to high street level. As Le Cuir was focused on spring/summer 14, this suggests designers and fashion houses will continue to use it widely.

“By the end of the second day, we had already reached our visitor numbers for last September,” said Joyeaux Bodin, a French specialist in dipped lamb leather.

There was also a marked increase from visitors from shoemaking countries Italy and Portugal. Ta-Bru, an Italian exhibitor, commented: “The show is becoming more international.”

The 24th edition, which finished on February 14, welcomed 349 exhibitors and 13,044 visitors, an increase of 22.5% and 6.5% respectively on February 2012.
