Gambian government faces criticism over cattle vaccination funding

11/02/2013
Livestock farmers in The Gambia have appealed for government help in the face of an outbreak of bovine pneumonia.

Herders in some parts of the country say they have lost as many as 30% of their cattle.

Estimates suggest that a sum of around $700,000 would be enough to fund a vaccination programme. Some reports say that the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation has pledged more than $400,000 for the project. However, the government has appeared reluctant to provide the remaining $300,000.
