The Egyptian government has said it will clear an area measuring more than 1,600 hectares for a new leather industrial zone in Abu Znaima, south Sinai. It said it wanted to enhance industrial development in the area and provide job opportunities for the people who live there.

Minister of industry and overseas trade, Hatem Saleh, said almost 1,700 industrial units can be set up on the site, but made it clear that 20% of the total would be set aside for small and medium-sized operations.
