Beef export demand should encourage growth for US cattle farmers
06/02/2013
Speaking at the start of the US cattle industry’s annual convention in Tampa, Florida, in early February, the chairman of USMEF’s global growth committee, Larry Pratt, said farmers need to take export demand into account when making decisions regarding herd rebuilding and expansion.
His comments come in the wake of confirmation from the US Department of Agriculture that the national herd size shrank for a sixth consecutive year in 2012 and is now at a 61-year low with 89.3 million head.
