Sagripanti ups the ante in Shanghai shoe show set-to

ANCI will host the inaugural edition of Micam Shanghai in the Chinese city from April 9-11 this year and secured an agreement at the end of January that Micam Shanghai will be an official part of the Shanghai Fashion Week.
In the wake of this, GDS announced its decision not to go ahead with a planned event called GDS Select, which it was to run in parallel with the China International Footwear & Leathergoods Exhibition, April 17-19. On learning of the plans for Micam Shanghai, GDS approached ANCI in the summer of 2012 to propose a joint European footwear event in the Chinese city in 2013. ANCI turned this proposal down and went ahead with its own plans.
In response to the GDS decision to pull out, Cleto Sagripanti said: “We’re happy with GDS’s decision to cancel GDS Select so that the dates won’t overlap. This decision responds to the industry’s needs, ensuring a consistent, practical international trade fair calendar: an especially important factor in uncertain times like these.”
He went on to say that ANCI’s priority is “to do the best thing for the companies, which despite their current difficulties continue to believe in the trade fair as a key tool for re-launching the industry”.
