Brazil: beef exports up in volume and value

Beef exports from Brazil achieved record values of just short of $4.5 billion in 2012, up from the previous record of almost $4.2 billion in 2011.

There was also an increase in volume, with packers sending 945,000 tonnes of beef overseas from Brazil in 2012 compared to 820,000 tonnes the year before. The figures, which come from the ministry of development and overseas trade, represent increases year on year of 7.8% in value and of 15.3% in value.

The highest ever volume of beef exports was in 2007, with shipments of 1.3 million tonnes.
