TFL launches retanning agent with reduced plumping effect
30/01/2013
Because of its chemistry, Sellatan RP has the ability to impart a mellow tanning effect through the cross section. The mild astringency results in reduced plumping and a fine and firm grain. It can be used to replace a part or even all of the vegetable tanning extracts in the retannage, such as tara or chestnut, depending upon the raw material and articles required. Compared with tara, it features brighter and more intense dyeings, according to the company - a result of its minimal dye bleaching properties.
It is suitable for the retannage of wet blue and wet white materials for shoe, leathergoods, upholstery and automotive leathers, and is a combination of anionic synthetic retanning agents in powder form.
Leathers produced with Sellatan RP show very good resistance to heat and light, according to the company, and have excellent heat hydrolysis properties. The leathers are not sensitive to iron and respond well to buffing, resulting in a short and fine nap.
