Lower volumes, higher value for Pakistan leather exports

During the first six months of the current financial year, July-December 2012, the Pakistani leather sector achieved export sales with a value of $547 million, very slightly down (by 0.5%) on the same period in the previous financial year.

Between July and December 2012, tanners exported from Pakistan 10.9 million square-metres of finished leather, with a value of $219.9 million. In the corresponding period in 2011, they shipped more, almost 12.1 million square-metres, but with a lower value, $210.4 million. So, year on year, while export volumes declined by 9.3%, value rose by 4.5%.

Leathergoods exports had a value of $278.7 million over the same period in 2012, a decline of 4.5% compared to July-December 2011.

Exports of footwear from Pakistan over the same period also fell in volume, by 8.5% to almost 5.1 million pairs, but rose in value, by 1.5% to $48.4 million.
