Slaughter and beef consumption go back up in Argentina

23/01/2013
Argentina registered an increase in cattle slaughter and in domestic beef consumption for the first three quarters of 2012.

Numbers are still substantially lower than those of 2009, when the figures began a sharp decline, but compared to the same period in 2011, the first nine months of 2012 showed a rise.

Between January and September 2012, Argentinean abattoirs slaughtered 8.5 million head of cattle, an increase of 3.8% on the same period in 2011. Over the same nine-month period in 2012, official figures show a 7% increase in domestic beef consumption.
