Bangladesh: leather industry beats export target

According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh the country’s leather industry performed well, beating a target on export revenues for the first six months of the current financial year by 2.3%.

In the first half of the financial year, July-December 2012, leather-sector exporting companies earned $450 million for the Bangladeshi economy,beating a government target of $440 million.

Finished leather exports over the six-month period had a value of $166.7 million, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period a year earlier. Exports of leathergoods showed an increase in value of 107%, reaching $73.2 million.

Footwear exporters in Bangladesh brought in export revenues of $211 million, an increase of 10.1%.
