Santa Croce not safe from Italian economic crisis

The authorities in the Italian province of Pisa, home to the important tanning cluster of Santa Croce sull’Arno, have announced a considerable downturn in manufacturing output in the third quarter of 2012 compared to the same period the year before.

Pisa’s leather production fell by 2.3%, an official report said. Footwear manufacture contracted by 11.3% and, to complete a gloomy picture for the province’s important fashion industry manufacturers, clothing and textiles by 7.6%.
