Slaughter rises in Argentina

20/12/2012
Argentina has reported an increase of 15.7% in cattle slaughter for the month of October 2012 compared to the same month in 2011.

During October 2012, Argentinean abattoirs slaughtered just over 1 million head of cattle and packers produced 241,000 tonnes of beef.

However, the extra supply did nothing to increase the availability of Argentinean meat in export markets. Beef exports for the month fell by 26.6% compared to October 2011, reaching 100,900 tonnes, the lowest level for eight years.
