Specialty chemicals group Clariant has announced it is to unveil innovative additions to its portfolio at the India International Leather Fair at the end of January, which it says will offer "more sustainable performance and economy to its industry partners".

In the spotlight will be the Swiss group's developments for the fine leather sector: a range of low VOC top coats “Aqualen Top FL Series” for shoes and bags. The innovative topcoats can be used as alternatives to the currently available solvent-based tops and the company claims they have better performance.

Further product-firsts include extensions to Clariant’s finishing and wet-end solutions. The highly transparent Neosan Lucido pigment range is based on a nanotechnology type of pigment dispersion and creates opportunities in both anionic and cationic finishing systems. It provides an elegant, aniline-like appearance for classical articles as well as fashionable and brilliant shades without performance limitations (eg migrations).

Clariant will also unveil a compact range of syntans offering "high economy" and which meet the latest formaldehyde-free specifications: Tanicor RS-38 Powder, Tanicor RS-40 Powder and Tergotan RE-5020 Powder.

New waterproofing agent Dermaphob WA-71 is a highlight from the company's wet end range, specially developed for high-performance water-repellent shoe uppers.

The new Melio Softfix ANV will also be revealed, offering the tanner a solution to the problem of improving fastness on nubuck or suede leathers while maintaining their natural beauty and aesthetics. Clariant’s cutting-edge solution to anti-soiling properties for sofa leathers will also be on show.

The India International Leather Fair will be held in Chennai from January 31 to February 3, 2013.
