Turkish tanners restrict double-face production

Reports from Turkey say tanners specialising in double-face garment leathers are facing production restrictions because of a lack of suitable raw material.

Low slaughter in Spain and the UK, the two most important sources of skins for Turkish tanners, have left supplies short and pushed prices high.

Consistently high prices, with suckling lamb and merino skins fetching between EUR 15 and EUR 20 per piece for around three years, and a lack of alternative supply at cheaper rates have finally forced Turkish tanners to restrict their production.
