Coach CEO named top wealth creator
14/12/2012
The Wealth Creation Index is compiled by Chief Executive magazine, and names Lew Frankfurt as the best out of his S&P 500 peers – the 500 top publicly traded US companies. The ranking shows who has created the most value for shareholders from July 2009 to June 2012.
Coach, the $4.7 billion group which started out in 1941 as a family-run women’s accessories, uses a flexible global sourcing model in which independent manufacturers supply its products, which allows it to bring a broad range of products to market rapidly and efficiently.
Its profitability hit lows in 2009 but it bounced back due to what the magazine describes as “great inventory management, strong marketing, impressive sales initiatives at stores and a core product in high demand”.
Among the best wealth creators were household company names like Philip Morris, Discover and T Rowe Price. Bottom performers included included Citigroup, Archer Daniels Midland and Chesapeake Energy.
