Record slaughter in Brazil in Q3

According to official statistics, Brazilian abattoirs slaughtered just over 8 million head of cattle in the third quarter of 2012.

This figure represents a record; the previous highest quarterly total was over 7.9 million head of cattle in the first quarter of 2007. Official statistics agency IBGE began recording cattle slaughter in Brazil in 1997.

Total carcass weight of 1.9 million tonnes is also a record, beating the figure set in the second quarter of 2010, 1.8 million tonnes.
