India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) arranged for 32 export-focused companies to take part in a buyer-seller meet event in New York during the autumn. At the start of December, CLE said participating companies had received follow-up business enquiries with a value of close to $1 million. The event was organised with the financial support of India’s ministry of commerce and industry under a programme called the Market Access Initiative.

Leather-sector exports from India to the US during financial year 2011-2012 (April-March) had a value of $439.3 million, an increase of 26.2% compared to the previous financial year.
