Bill Amberg floor for Selfridges footwear department

Mr Amberg wrote a diary of a week in his busy life for the Financial Times at the end of November and mentioned that he and his team had to go to the store at 10.30 pm one evening, long after closing time, to gain special access to be able to apply a polish to the leather flooring.
He said it was eerie to walk around “the hallowed halls of Selfridges” when the store was empty, but said it provided him with useful research for Christmas shopping.
Selfridges opened what it claims is the largest men’s footwear department in the world on November 6. It has shoes from 250 brands and stocks more than 70,000 pairs. The Amberg team used 280 square-metres of vegetable-tanned soling leather to cover it and intends to return once a month to polish it again and again, probably at night.
