Brazilian hide exports up in volume and value in November

Brazil’s exports of leather, hides and skins in November 2012 had a value of $175.8 million, an increase of 10.7% compared to the same month in 2011.

In terms of volume, exports had a total weight of 36,000 tonnes, up by 35.8% compared to the same month in 2011. However, the average price of exported material was down by 18.4% compared to the previous year, according to the official data, bringing in an average of $4.89 per kilo.

In the first 11 months of 2012, the Brazilian industry shipped leather, hides and skins worth almost $1.9 billion, which is flat compared to the same months in 2011.
