Name change for company behind Gaitonde brand

With effect from December 1, the brand comes under the newly created corporate entity of Gaitonde Leathers and Accessories Private Limited. This replaces the previous corporate name of R.Y. Gaitonde & Company.
Gaitonde’s company history began in the 1920s when it set up as a leather agent in southern India for tanners in the UK, importing finished hides and skins and selling them to Indian footwear manufacturers.
In the late 1960s it began to tan its own leather and make its own shoes, first on contract to big-name brands in Europe and, from 1994, under its own brand name. It no longer runs tanneries, but is expanding its footwear manufacture and retail presence and, in 2012, began offering a made-to-order service.
