Coach contemplates flagship store in Chengdu

Reports in China say luxury leathergoods brand Coach is planning to open a new flagship store in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in western China, with the city’s International Financial Center as the location.

Jonathan Seliger, president and chief executive officer of Coach China, visited Chengdu recently and said that he believed Chengdu represents China’s third-largest market for the brand, after Beijing and Shanghai.

During its 2012 fiscal year, Coach realised sales of $300 million in China, representing growth of 60% compared to the previous year. In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, the company’s sales in China were up again by nearly 40%.

Mr Seliger added that although Coach already has six own-brand stores in Chengdu, the company still needs a flagship store.
