New leather made from Patagonian fish
28/11/2012
A team from the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) of Chubut is working with the INTI Leather Centre, using ‘environmentally friendly’ tanning processes on hake, perch, rainbow trout and Patagonian silver smelt.
The team have held design conferences and workshops, and looked into product development and technology management to assess demand. "The perception of the 'novel status', the quality of the texture achieved, the applicability of dyes and the potential introduction of blends” provide the appeal, said a spokesperson from INTI.
The research is part of a project by the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco and is sponsored by the Department of Fisheries of Chubut.
