Italian leathergoods representatives head to Libya

Italian leathergoods companies will be among delegates heading to Libya to take part in a trade mission this week.

The companies will be meeting their Libyan counterparts at the Dat Il-Imad conference centre in Tripoli to discuss tie-ups and potential deals.

Earlier in the year, Italian prime minister Mario Monti visited Libya to revive a friendship treaty between the two countries that was signed between Berlusconi and Gaddafi, but which was suspended during last year's conflict.

Under the treaty, Italy agreed to pay Libya €5 billion over 25 years in compensation for colonial rule. Italian businesses are taking advantage of the favourable terms for trade links in Libya.
