The ninth edition of the Asian International Conference on Leather Science and Technology (AICLST) took place in Taipei from November 12-14. The event was organised by the Taiwanese International Leather Association, and had the support of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies, the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, the China Leather Industry Association and the Footwear & Recreation Technology Research Institute.

Presentations at AICLST 2012 analysed the current industry situation and discussed new ideas in science and technology that can help the tanning sector, with a particular emphasis on ideas that can benefit tanners in Asia. Within this, ideas promoting zero waste and environmental concerns received particular attention.
