Léon tanners encouraged to diversify

On a visit to the Anpic exhibition in León, which took place from November 7-9, the new governor of the host state, Guanajuato, Miguel Márquez, encouraged local tanners to keep looking for new markets for their leather to diversify their businesses.

León is home to around 500 tanneries, many of them very small, with footwear the main focus for most.

Speaking at Anpic, Mr Márquez said that 3% of visitors to the event this year were buyers of leather from the automotive industry and he said this represented a good additional niche for León’s leather manufacturers to expand into.
