A fire that broke out a leather factory in Woodbridge in the south east of England is being treated as suspicious, according to police.

Thirty firefighters attended the scene where it took a number hours to bring the blaze under control.

Of concern was stopping the run-off flowing into local rivers, and the Environment Agency was called to monitor the situation.

It is not clear how much damage was caused and police have launched an investigation.

Separately, a fire that broke in a leather factory out Karachi, Pakaistan, has been brought under control, but not before it caused “tens of thousands of rupees” worth of damage to materials and goods, according to local reports.

No one was injured in the blaze in the Korangi Industrial Area, but questions have been raised about the safety of such factories, after fire in the town killed at least 259 in September. Thirty-two of those are still to be identified.
