Leather satchel entrepreneur in line for business award

The founder of leathergoods brand the Cambridge Satchel Company, Julie Deane, has been named as a finalist in the 2012 edition of the NatWest everywoman Awards, a UK programme for championing female entrepreneurship.

Since its foundation four years ago, Ms Deane’s company, which specialises in handmade, traditional-style school satchels, has become a £9 million operation and has won contracts to supply Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Bloomingdales, Printemps, Saks Fifth Avenue and Lane Crawford.
 
The winners will be announced at a lunch ceremony at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Wednesday, December 5.
