Pelé fronts campaign to promote Brazilian agriculture

Advertisements with the football star of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s as the front man will run on national television between now and June 2014, when Brazil begins hosting the next FIFA World Cup.
In the first of the commercials, Pelé relates that, although he spent most of his life on the football field, the thing that gives him most pleasure now is seeing his country as a champion food producer, providing good, affordable, healthy meat, fish, fruit and vegetables for people inside and outside the country.
At the launch of the campaign, CNA president, Senator Kátia Abreu, who also appears on screen, emphasised that team-work among 4.1 million food producers throughout Brazil and commitment to technology and innovation have been the keys to success.
Another point she raised was that Brazil is able to use only 27.7% of its land to produce food. “This allows our country to leave 61% of its territory untouched. It’s an area that continues to be covered by native flora,” Senator Abreu said.
