Kia confuses customers over leather upholstery

Korean automotive brand Kia has been criticised by a specialist car publication in the UK for incorrectly presenting the upholstery in its Sportage model as leather.

Customers noted that after presenting the vehicle has having “full leather upholstery”, Kia later added an asterisk to the specifications it lists for the model on its website and a footnote admitting that some parts of this “leather upholstery” contain synthetic substitutes.

Kia has admitted to the car publication, Auto Express, that it published this additional information after some customers had bought the car. The company said it accepted its use of the term full leather upholstery “could be misconstrued” and said it would stop using this description. It insisted it had no intention of misleading customers.
