BMW to build new car plant in Brazil

The BMW Group has announced plans to build a new plant in Brazil. At a meeting with Brazilian president, Dilma Rousseff, in Brasilia on October 22, BMW’s sales and marketing director, Ian Robertson, said the automotive company had submitted an investment proposal to the government.

BMW’s chosen location is Joinville, the largest city in the sate of Santa Catarina and the company has confirmed that negotiations with the state government of Santa Catarina are already well under way.

Its goal is for production to begin in 2014. Investments over the next few years will total more than EUR 200 million. Plans call for a production capacity of approximately 30,000 vehicles per year. More than 1,000 new jobs will be created at the new production site, as well as additional jobs within the supplier network as a result of the new plant.
