Pakistan tanners warn of water shortages during Eid

23/10/2012
The chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association (South Zone) has warned that a water shortage in the tannery zone of Korangi is seriously threatening the industry there, and has called on the water board to help rectify the situation before one of the busiest times of the year.

The tanneries are dependent on water supplied through tankers, and hydrants are now being closed.

Amanullah Aftab said it is nearing a peak time of the year as organisations and individuals donate hides and skins as part of Eid al-Adha, which starts at the end of this week.

If the water situation is not rectified, tanners might have to turn business away and jobs could subsequently be lost, he warned.
