Scottish Leather Group's sales grow 21%

Scottish Leather Group (SLG) has posted strong results for last year, boosted by contracts in the automotive and aviation sectors.

Its sales were up 21% at £119m, operating profit rose from
£7 million to £8.5m, and pre-tax profit rose 22% to £8.7m.

The group, which owns four leather companies and an IT firm, has contracts with Ford, Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover. Last month, SLG-owned Andrew Muirhead announced a new deal to supply the leather for Malaysia Airlines' latest fleet.

“Our results for the 2011-12 financial year show outstanding business performance for the 12-month period,” the group said. “An exceptionally busy period of product launches in key industries for our group has contributed significantly to these results.

“We are re-investing these returns in the future growth of the business, for example the new factory at Bridge of Weir, which has recently started production."
